On March 27th, the interuniversity scientific conference on translation, regional research, and intercultural communication “Uvarov Readings” was held at the Academy of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
1st year master’s student in the “Security of Interfaith and Interethnic Relations” program at the IPACS Presidential Academy, Luiza Lyanova, made a report and presented to students the results of her scientific research on the topic: “Intercultural communication in a national and ethnic context.”
“I was lucky enough to speak at a section of the conference dedicated to problems, methods, and models of intercultural communication. She told students and guests of the Academy about the features, problems, challenges, and measures to harmonize the interethnic and interreligious environment. This topic is very relevant right now, in my opinion. We all see how the recent tragedy at Crocus turned into a surge in interethnic conflicts in schools and universities, among others. Therefore, now it is especially important to carry out work aimed at ensuring intercultural and interethnic harmony. My report did not end with methods and measures to combat the spread of destructive ideology; we had a very lively and constructive conversation with the conference participants on issues of improving forms of education for children and youth in accordance with the goals of state national policy, as well as on measures taken in the federal executive bodies authorities to improve the system of measures aimed at harmonizing intercultural dialogue. Of course, the primary problem in intercultural communication is the problem of language barriers, but this is only at first glance. In fact, intercultural communication covers all aspects of communication between representatives of different cultures, including language, customs, values, norms of behavior, family attitudes and even stereotypes,” shared Luiza.
In addition to the plenary session, the conference featured work in about ten sections in various areas. During the conference, young scientists discussed current issues of linguistics and translation, regional studies, and intercultural communication, linguacultural and linguistic safety, as well as the challenges of the time and the development strategy of modern society. Students from leading Russian universities took part in the scientific forum. Based on the results of the scientific event, it is planned to release a collection of conference materials.
